Jr. Preschool

Almost Home offers a preschool program for three year old children aptly called, "Jr. Preschool." Children who enter Jr. Preschool have strong language and self-help skills, budding social skills, and a basic knowledge of colors, shapes, letters, and numbers. Jr. Preschool is the perfect first preschool experience;  offering a structured environment that builds on a child's current knowledge.  This class is taught by a Certified Teacher who holds a Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
The class size is limited to 10 children. One full-time class is offered year round and 
two half-day Jr. Preschool classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays during
the academic year only.  

In Jr. Preschool children learn to recognize their letters and numbers, and begin to learn
the concept that letters have sounds. Children learn to recognize their numbers, practice counting objects, and solidify beginning math skills with pattern and sequence games. 
The ability to draw circles, lines, and basic shapes evolves  into tracing activities and  cutting skills progress from straight lines to circles.  Sensory activities include
play-doh, sand, rice, beans, water play, and MORE!    "Kids In the Kitchen" cooking activites, a class science center, and preschool garden round out our science and nature experience.  Circle Time is when we gather to name our calendar and weather helpers, recite our Pledge of Allegiance with an appointed "flag holder", read stories about our theme of the week, enjoy puppet "visitors,"  and sing songs.

The Jr. Preschool  curriculum at Almost Home is enhanced by a weekly visit from our dance teacher who conducts our "Creative Movement" class. Creative Movement  is a combination of dance, tumbling, and large motor skills. A music teacher visits Jr. Preschool once per month to teach the children about rhythm and harmony and allow them to experiment with a variety instruments. Mr. Mike visits twice per month to teach a new lesson from the Bible with stories, songs and games. A computer is also available to the Jr. Preschool class which is loaded with the latest in preschool educational software. Field Trips,
